North Carolina Peaks & Paddles Trek Itinerary

Summit peaks & paddle the Atlantic surf

Recommended ages: Entering 8-11th grade
Community service: Up to 12 hours

brm_basecamp3.jpg DAYS 1-3: BASE CAMP (OUTSIDE OF ATLANTA)

Spend three days getting to know each other, playing team building games, learning outdoor skills and wilderness first aid, and joining in camp-wide activities.

 

 

Raven Cliff Waterfalls DAY 4: WATERFALL HIKE AT CAESARS HEAD STATE PARK, SC

On the way to Western North Carolina, you'll spend an afternoon exploring one of the most scenic parks in South Carolina.  Hike to a suspension bride where you'll see incredible views of the 420-foot Raven Cliff Falls.

 

Hiking DAY 5: SUMMIT TO SUMMIT HIKE AT MT MITCHELL STATE PARK, NC

Begin your hike at the highest peak east of the Mississippi and see how many peaks you can bag. You’ll summit Mount Mitchell, Mount Craig, Balsam Cone, and Cattail Peak, all over 6500 feet! With views as far as the eye can see, you won’t be disappointed.

 

Farm DAY 6: SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT IN ASHEVILLE, NC

Asheville is a hotbed for the sustainable food movement.  Learn about how our food gets from the farm to our table while working hand in hand with local farmers.  You'll earn up to 8 hours of community service.

 

Rafting DAY 7: WHITEWATER RAFTING ON THE FRENCH BROAD RIVER, NC

Explore one of North Carolina’s best rivers for whitewater rafting, the French Broad River. Try your hand at class I, II, III, and IV rapids, including Class IV Frank Bell’s Rapid. Your experienced raft guides will make sure you have a safe, splash-filled day.

 

Grandfather MountainDAY 8: GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN HIKING NEAR LINVILLE, NC

Grandfather Mountain sits among 4,000 acres of rugged, wildlife filled wilderness. You’ll begin your hike at the base of Grandfather Mountain and finish one mile above sea level at the Mile High Swinging Bridge.  Using cables and ladders you'll climb over Calloway Peak and McRae Peak.  Once you’re at the top, you’ll get to enjoy one of the tallest swinging bridges with 360 degree views.

 

Girl holding Kiddush cup DAY 9-10: SHABBAT CELEBRATION ON W KERR RESEVOIR NEAR WILKESBORO, NC

Shabbat is a time for rest, relaxation, and re-charging. Campers will come together to create a meaningful, communal experience. You'll be staying on the shores of one of NC's largest lakes, enjoying time for both swimming and boating!

DAY 11: TRAVEL TO THE COAST

 

Kayaking DAYS 12-13: SEA KAYAKING TO BEAR ISLAND, NC

Bear Island is a nearly 900 acre barrier island know for its pristine white sandy beaches. You’ll load up your kayak and paddle out to spend the night on the island. While en route, explore the saltwater marshes that makeup the North Carolina coastline.

 

Surfing DAYS 14-15: SURFING LESSONS ON WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC

The Cape Fear coast near Wilmington, NC provides an ideal spot to try surfing for the first time. Learn how to surf from some of the best East Coast surf instructors before trying it out for yourself. Surf’s up dude!

 

 

Sailing DAY 15: SUNSET SAILING TRIP IN SOUTHPORT, NC

Finish out the trek right with a sunset sailing adventure near the town of Southport, NC. See all sorts of wildlife (hopefully including dolphins!) on this relaxing sailing excursion.

 

DAY 16: TRAVEL TO BASE CAMP NEAR ATLANTA, GA

 

Shabbat Services

DAYS 17 AND 18: BASE CAMP AND CLOSING CEREMONIES

At the very end of the session, the entire Adamah Adventures family will return to Base Camp to celebrate all that has been accomplished. The adventure concludes with a final Shabbat celebration and closing campfire ceremony.
