Pacific Northwest Trek Itinerary
Travel along the pristine coast and snow-capped peaks of Washington.
Recommended ages: Entering 9-12th grade
DAYS 1-3: BASE CAMP (OUTSIDE OF SEATTLE, WA)
Spend three days getting to know each other, playing team building games, learning outdoor skills and wilderness first aid, and joining in camp-wide activities. The opening games of the summer's Trek Challenge will get you excited for the adventures ahead.
DAY 4: TRAVEL TO OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK
DAY 5: HIKING IN QUINALT RAIN FOREST
Olympic National Park is home to one of only three temperate coniferous rain forests in the Western hemisphere. Drenched in over 12 feet of rain a year, you’ll soon find out why these rain forests are so spectacular. Walk side-by-side giant western hemlocks, Douglas firs and Sitka spruce trees.
DAYS 6-7: BEACH BACKPACKING IN OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK
The Wild Coast of the Olympic Penninsula is one of the most pristine beaches in the country. You’ll hike along the Northwestern Coast, traversing sand and rocks while listening to the waves crashing nearby. Get up close to the tide pools to see jellyfish, starfish, and other wildlife.
DAY 8: FERRY TO SAN JUAN ISLANDS
The San Juan Islands were recently named one of the top world travel destinations by National Geographic. The combination of sparkling clear water, cool forests, and gorgeous summer weather makes the San Juans an adventurer's paradise.
DAY 9: SEA KAYAKING IN THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS
The best way to explore the beaches and bays of the islands is by sea kayak. You’ll spend all day immersed in the islands, paddling, and watching for wildlife. With a little luck, you may even see some orca whales!
DAY 10: SHABBAT CELEBRATION AT LAKEDALE RESORT
Spend a relaxing day swimming, boating, or just soaking up some sunshine in the San Juans. You’ll get recharged and ready for another full week of adventure!
DAY 11: BIKING ON SAN JUAN ISLAND
For our last island adventure, we'll explore from a different perspective: by bike! Hop on an easy-to-pedal hybrid bike and follow a scenic trail along the coast of San Juan Island. Your route will almost always keep the beautiful water in view and will end at historic San Juan Island Park. After our bike trip, we'll take the ferry back to mainland, and head east into the North Cascades.
DAYS 12-13: BACKPACKING IN THE NORTH CASCADES
North Cascades National Park is a mountainous wilderness area, home to over 300 glaciers. Hike through dense old growth forest along the tumbling Panther Creek on your way to the top of Fourth of July Pass. Camp with a sunset view of majestic Neve Glacier. Finish the hike the next day with an ice cold swim in Thunder Creek before heading back to civilization!
DAY 14: WHITEWATER RAFTING ON THE SAUK RIVER
Raft on the protected wild and scenic Sauk River. The beautiful crystal clear green hue of the Sauk comes from a combination of snowpack and glacier melt. Challenge yourself on nearly continuous class III and IV rapids including Alligator Drop and Popeye.
DAY 15: SNOW HIKING ON MOUNT RAINIER
For your last adventure, you'll head to Mount Rainier, the most prominent peak in the continental US. You’ll ascend up the Muir Snowfield to Camp Muir, and finish your climb at a height of 10,000 feet! Camp Muir is the jumping off point for mountaineers to attempt a summit of Rainier. The way down goes much faster, as you learn from your staff how to safely glissade down the snowfield.
DAY 16: TRAVEL BACK TO BASE CAMP
DAYS 17 AND 18: BASE CAMP AND CLOSING CEREMONIES
At the very end of the session, the entire Adamah Adventures family will return to Base Camp to celebrate all that has been accomplished. The adventure concludes with a final Shabbat celebration, final games of the Trek Challenge, and closing campfire ceremony.
