Reflections on an amazing first summer

It’s truly hard to believe that the summer has come to an end. When we began creating Adamah Adventures over two years ago, we could only imagine what it would be like, how camp would feel, and what our campers and staff would get out of being a part of Adamah Adventures.

Having finished our first summer, I can tell you that camp looks like beautiful blue skies,

Blue Skies

rewarding sunrises after a morning hike,

Sunrise

canyons as far as you can see...

Canyons

camp feels sweaty after finishing a bike ride or canyoneering

Canyoneering

like the floor is pounding during a ruach-filled Shabbat song session

Song Session

and refreshing when getting splashed on the river.

In the River

We have received numerous emails and messages from campers and parents telling us what they got out of being part of Adamah Adventures. We wanted to share a few of those with you:

Just got home from camp! Greatest thing I’ve ever done. Had so much fun rock climbing, rafting, snorkeling, caving, zip lining, and more. Made so many new friends. Shout out to all you Adamah Jews! This was the best 18 days of my life (Jordan Neel, Denver, CO – 2nd Session Blue Ridge Trek)

Joshua didn't stop talking from when we left Perimeter to when we dropped him off at boy scout camp. He had an amazing time, is already telling us he is going to the Pacific Northwest next year and is asking questions how to become a trek leader. Thanks to the entire crew at Adamah; Joshua could not stop telling us about how great you were and the fun times you had.  (Steven Shapiro, Alpharetta, GA, Parent of Josh Shapiro – 1st Session Utah Trek)

I knew before she [my daughter] came home just by looking at the pictures, that she was having the time of her life. As you are aware, she has had a rough two years and needed something to open her up again. I can tell you that by the look in her eyes and the glow on her face that she has achieved that! She has made some new friendships and has created some memories she will never forget. She was telling me how wonderful the staff was and how much support that was around her! I can tell you now, you have not seen the last of her, and I can guarantee you she will be with you next summer for another trek!!!! I'm proud of her and thrilled she had such a great experience! (Danny Sherman, Alpharetta, GA, Parent of Sophie Sherman – 2nd Session Utah Trek)

I love Adamah because it's so unlike all the other Jewish camps out there. At Adamah, we say what we mean, and we mean it a lot! I really connected with nature during Session 1 2010. It'll always be one of my best memories. (Emma Fischer, Nashville, TN – 1st Session Blue Ridge Trek)

I loved going to Adamah and meeting other Jewish people my age! I connected with my Judaism and it made me appreciate being Jewish! I cannot wait to go back next summer and do new hikes & see amazing views! (Sophie Sherman, Alpharetta, GA – 2nd Session Utah Trek)

Adamah Adventures made me discover how to put Judaism and nature together. I learned a lot about living in the woods (how to set up a tent). I really like singing so this experience was worth it. We lived in a community and in the day we did awesome activities such as rafting and caving. (Simon Cohen, Paris, France – 2nd Session Blue Ridge Trek)

Adamah Adventures was a life changing experience. We all came in looking for the same type of thing, a Jewish camp that would bring us together and closer to Judaism, and while Adamah Adventures accomplished that, it also did so much more. From our ice breakers at base camp and sing-a-longs with Adam and his guitar, to the life stories we shared on trek and the connection with nature we formed, I know I speak for everyone that went to Adamah Adventures this past summer when I say that the memories we've made here will last us forever. (Jordana Narin, Englewood, NJ – 2nd Session Blue Ridge Trek)

We can’t say it any better than that! We are thrilled to have had such a wonderful and enthusiastic group of campers, parents, and staff to take the leap with us this year! Thank you for being part of our community and we can’t wait until next year.

Ready for next year already? Bobbee, Adam, and Susan just got back from scouting out the Pacific Northwest trek…it was amazing! We have posted pictures on our Flicker account. Check them out here. In addition to the Pacific Northwest trek, we will again offer our Blue Ridge and Utah treks, as well as a shorter version of our Blue Ridge Mountains specifically for 7th graders.  Registration opens later this week for returning campers, and for everybody on October 1.  Spaces are limited on the treks so make sure you sign up to reserve your spot!

Thank you again to all of our family, friends, campers, parents, staff…you made Adamah Adventures a reality this year!
